DSA 2026: Dongfeng MENGSHI armoured vehicle positioned for Malaysian Army tender 21/04/2026 | Atul Chandra (Reporting from Kuala Lumpur)

China’s Dongfeng Motor Corporation's third-generation Mengshi 4x4 tactical armoured vehicle is being offered for a prospective Infantry Combat Vehicle (ICV) requirement of the Royal Malaysian Army, with a local partner supporting the campaign.

The Army’s anticipated ICV programme has drawn interest from multiple international suppliers, with local industry participation a likely to be a consideration. The vehicle is being exhibited publicly in Malaysia for the first time at the Defence Services Asia (DSA) exhibition in Kuala Lumpur, where it is being promoted by local company Arif Niaga Resources Sdn Bhd. The Chinese-built 4x4 vehicles completed initial trials in Malaysia last year, supported by Chinese technical personnel.

Nik Arifah Nik Mahmood, managing director of Arif Niaga Resources told FW MAG that the MENGSHI 4x4 is being offered in anticipation of an ICV tender. “We are awaiting a tender for ICVs, which was planned in 2025 but is now expected in 2026,” she said. Future plans could also involve export of the Chinese vehicle to other Southeast Asian markets.

The MENGSHI 4x4 displayed at DSA is configured to carry up to six fully equipped soldiers and has a stated payload capacity of 1,800 kg. The third-generation Dongfeng Mengshi 4x4 armoured vehicle entered service with the People's Liberation Army (PLA) in 2020. Mass production commenced in August 2021.

These high-mobility tactical vehicles are used for roles such as rapid deployment, transport of troops and mobile assault. They have been deployed at altitudes in excess of 15,000 feet. Various variants are available including those that can be equipped with machine guns, grenade launchers, rockets and howitzers.
