DSA 2026: PT Dirgantara Indonesia eyes 70mm rocket segment (and more) 22/04/2026 | Atul Chandra (Reporting from Kuala Lumpur)

The Indonesian airframer PT Dirgantara Indonesia (PTDI) is seeking to expand its defence footprint in Malaysia by targeting potential requirements for 70 mm rocket systems.

PTDI is eyeing potential collaboration towards supply of 70mm Folding Fin Aircraft Rocket (FFAR) rocket systems to the Malaysian armed forces even as it seeks to enhance its presence in Malaysia beyond the CN235-220 platform and after-sales services.

“PTDI’s participation in DSA 2026 marks an important momentum to reinforce our presence in Malaysia as a long-term partner”, Moh. Arif Faisal, Director of Commerce, Technology & Development at PTDI, told FW MAG. “We remain committed to delivering reliable and sustainable solutions not only in aircraft platforms but also in broader defence systems, including rockets.”

PTDI’s push into rocket systems reflects the Indonesian firm’s broader strategy to expand its role in regional defence markets beyond fixed-wing aircraft manufacturing and support. The Indonesian airframer has maintained a long-standing presence in Malaysia since 1999.

Seven CN235-220 aircraft manufactured by PTDI are operated by the Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF), consisting of one VVIP military transport aircraft and six military transport variants. In 2023, PTDI completed the conversion of three of these aircraft into Maritime Surveillance Aircraft (MSA) configuration.

PTDI is progressing work on new military aircraft variants such as the CN235-220 Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) aircraft and the N219 MSA. PTDI’s CN235-220M ASW platform is being developed in collaboration with the Greek firm Scytalys, which is providing its airborne mission integration and management system.

The N219 MSA is positioned as a cost-effective surveillance platform with a radius of action of up to 200 nautical miles, operational endurance of over two hours, and a total mission time exceeding 5.5 hours. The N219 MSA is also being developed in partnership with Scytalys and is fitted with an ultra-light maritime surveillance radar with a range of up to 160 nautical miles, as well as an Electro Optical/Infrared (EO/IR) sensor.
