One month after the ceasefire between the United States-Israel and Iran, the Washington Post has published a detailed and exclusive analysis regarding the damage inflicted by Iranian strikes against U.S. bases in the region. The investigation was conducted on the basis of 128 satellite images released by Iranian state media and verified through cross-referencing with Sentinel-2 (Copernicus) and Planet imagery.
Among the bases involved, the principal installations include: Naval Support Activity (Bahrain), Ali al-Salem AB, Camp Arifjan and Camp Buehring (Kuwait), al-Udeid (Qatar), Prince Sultan (Saudi Arabia), Muwaffaq Salti (Jordan), and Al Dhafra (UAE).
In fact, the US newspaper has pointed out the same key takeaways that FW MAG has been disseminating during the conflict, identifying identical targets struck and the same level of destruction we documented on the FW MAG website and in the dedicated article published in the magazine (FW MAG 2/26).
The underlying assessments also align: Iranian targeting proved accurate and was based on HUMINT as well as satellite intelligence supplied by Russia and China; PATRIOT and THAAD interceptor missile stockpiles were depleted at unsustainable rates; and the U.S. force posture was not adequately prepared to counter the kamikaze drone threat.
