Thailand has ordered four Airbus C295 tactical transports for the Royal Thai Air Force (RTAF) and Royal Thai Navy (RTN), expanding the country’s fleet of the type and reinforcing Airbus’s presence in Southeast Asia.
The RTAF and RTN will receive two aircraft each, with Airbus describing the navy variant as an “enhanced transport configuration,” which will be equipped with an Electro-Optical/Infra-Red (EO/IR) sensor. The RTAF is scheduled to receive its first aircraft in the first half of 2029.
Both aircraft will be operated by the RTAF’s 46th Wing Division from Phitsanulok air base. Deliveries of Thai Navy aircraft will begin in late 2028, with the type be based at U-Tapao air base in Sattahip. Thailand is already an existing C295 customer, with the Royal Thai Army having fielded three aircraft since 2016. The latest orders continue with a broader expansion of Thailand’s Airbus military aircraft fleet.
The Thai Air Force had placed orders for two additional Airbus Helicopters H225 multi-role helicopters and a single Airbus A330 Multi Role Tanker Transport Plus (MRTT+) in September 2025. Delivery of the A330 MRTT+ is to take place in 2019. The RTAF also operates a fleet of H135 military training helicopters.
Three CN235 series aircraft supplied by Indonesian airframer PTDI are also operational in Thailand – two CN235-110s are operated by DRRAA Thailand and one CN235-220 is operated by the Royal Thai Police (RTP). The C295 has proven popular in the region accounting for 90 of the total of 335 aircraft ordered till date.
