A closer look into trigalight's self-powered illumination technology 01/08/2024 | Editorial Team

Recently, mb-microtec announced the launch of its revolutionary new product, the trigalight marker. This small yet mighty product uses the world’s smallest gaseous tritium light sources (GTLS), providing visibility at all times and can be used in watches, tactical equipment utilized by the military and several bulk light sources thanks to its incredible lifespan of 10+ years.

Trigalight technology from mb-microtec already finds extensive application in the defence sector, primarily due to its unique self-powered illumination capabilities and exceptional durability. One of the most significant uses of trigalight technology is in tactical inserts for gun sights. These inserts are specifically designed to provide reliable illumination for firearms, ensuring that military personnel can effectively engage targets even in low-light conditions. The metal-sleeved design, combined with sapphire crystal protection, enhances their reliability and performance, making them ideal for the rigors of tactical operations.

Navigation tools also benefit from trigalight technology, particularly tactical compasses and map readers. These devices allow for reliable navigation in low-light situations, with self-powered illumination ensuring they are always ready for use without the need for an external light source. This feature is invaluable in military operations where maintaining situational awareness is critical. Furthermore, trigalight products can be used in emergency signage and markers within military installations. Their long service life and maintenance-free operation make them an excellent choice for ensuring visibility in critical situations, helping personnel navigate safely during emergencies.

Thanks to a brief conversation with Martin Künzi, Head of Sales Marketing & Product Management trigalight, FW MAG could gather further insights on the new marker based on mb-microtec’s technology.

FW MAG: How does this new marker fit into mb-microtec's overall product strategy and vision for self-illuminating technology?

Martin Künzi: The trigalight marker integrates two essential functions into one product. First, the high visibility in complete darkness and, second, the easy-to-use stick-on surface feature make the trigalight marker a perfect fit to increase safety and mark critical spots. The marker is our answer to the question of bringing our illumination technology to the place both civil and military customers want in a safe and easy way.

FW MAG: How does the trigalight marker differentiate itself from other illumination solutions in the market?

Martin Künzi: Based on the USP's of the trigalight technology, this illuminated marker brings the benefit of a constant light without any outside energy. There is no need to charge the marker in sunlight or bring an external energy source to it, like all other illumination technology needs it.

FW MAG: How do you expect the trigalight® marker to impact mb-microtec's market position in the self-illuminating technology sector?

Martin Künzi: The benefits of the trigalight illumination technology are widely known already. Yet, this technology comes as already integrated in finished goods of our customers. The new markers are contained in a transparent plastic casing and fixed in place using a pre-attached self-adhesive film, making them ideal for use on safety equipment. Therefore, the marker allows to integrate our illumination technology in finished goods after the design phase in a cost-efficient manner. This increases the visibility and prominence of this kind of technologies, and we expect mb-microtec to expand its markets to new users and subsectors.

FW MAG: Thank you for your insights!
