Oman Munition Production Company (OMPC) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Czech Republic's MSM Group, one of Europe's leading ammunition manufacturers and a major producer of artillery ammunition, at the ongoing Eurosatory exhibition.
The agreement marks a significant expansion of OMPC's capabilities beyond its existing small-arms ammunition portfolio and into medium and heavy-calibre ammunition.
Through a transfer-of-technology (ToT) arrangement with OMPC, the Sultanate of Oman's only ammunition manufacturer, MSM Group will transfer know-how for medium- and heavy-calibre ammunition. Speaking to FW MAG, a company official said the agreement represents an important step in Oman's efforts to strengthen its defence industrial base. The partnership is expected to enhance local content, develop national competencies and enable Omani personnel to acquire, operate and sustain advanced manufacturing technologies.
The initiative forms part of OMPC's broader growth strategy and supports the objectives of Oman Vision 2040, which seeks to position the Sultanate as a regional hub for advanced defence industries.
Established in 2014, OMPC supplies small-arms ammunition to Oman's defence and security forces. Its current product portfolio includes 5.56x45 mm ammunition (M200, M193, .223 Remington and SS109), 7.62x51 mm ammunition (Tracer, .308 Winchester, M82 and M80) and 9x19 mm ammunition (Match, Luger and Parabellum variants).
