Eurosatory, Rheinmetall and South Korea's LIG team up for air defense systems targeting EU and NATO markets 19/06/2026 | Carolina Paizs (Reporting from Paris)

At Eurosatory 2026, Rheinmetall and South Korean firm LIG Defense & Aerospace (LIG D&A) announced a strategic partnership for the development and marketing of air defense systems aimed at the European and NATO markets.

The near-term goal is the establishment of a Rheinmetall-majority joint venture. The partnership covers the localization, development and marketing in Europe of LIG D&A's medium- and long-range missile systems, paired with Rheinmetall's Very Short Range Air Defense (VSHORAD) systems.

The 2 partners also committed to co-developing new missiles and capabilities for the Short Range Air Defense (SHORAD) segment, with the stated objective of covering the full spectrum of layered air defense. A missile mock-up and a launcher scale model were on display at the show, the latter configured with 2 blocks of 8 cells each for a total of 16 cells.
