Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) has announced HYPNOSIS, a new air defense system designed to jam and spoof the satellite navigation signals that guide aerial drones, whether operating individually or in swarms.

The system is a long-range, GNSS-focused soft-kill solution intended to counter the growing threat from low-cost UAVs (C-UAV), loitering munitions, and one-way effectors that depend on satellite-based navigation.

In the context of the current conflict between Iran and the American-Israeli coalition, strategic sites have become more exposed to drone attacks. Traditional hard-kill systems alone can be overwhelmed and may not provide a sustainable or economically viable defense. HYPNOSIS is designed to fill this gap by serving as a networked soft-kill layer within a multi-layered air defense architecture. It complements existing hard-kill systems, reduces reliance on costly interceptors, and preserves kinetic capabilities as the final layer of defense.

Developed by IAI’s NAVWAR (Navigation Warfare) Center of Excellence, HYPNOSIS uses an array of mobile stations positioned around a defended area. Working together, these stations disrupt or deny the navigation, timing, and command-and-control signals of incoming aerial platforms before they can reach the protected site.
