In recent operations in the Taiz sector and the coastal area of Duhbab, the Houthis have stepped up the tactical use of First-Person View (FPV) attack drones against positions held by Yemen's Presidential Leadership Council (PLC) forces, releasing what appear to be among the first footage of this type of operation by the group.
The suicide drones operate in combination with dedicated Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) drones tasked with target selection and designation as well as Bomb Damage Assessment (BDA), providing a high-definition video feed.
Targets struck include electro-optical surveillance systems, government force positions, and vehicles (including over 20 moving vehicles).
Analysis of the released footage reveals a remarkable level of training and operator proficiency, superior for instance to what emerged from the first videos of FPV drone employment by Hezbollah. Pilots manage to guide the drones through narrow gaps and into confined spaces (building openings, covered positions) while maintaining control all the way to impact. The quality of piloting and fluidity of maneuvers point to an already well-established training cycle and capability.
The drones employed are in all likelihood fiber-optic guided, a technology that makes the aircraft immune to electronic warfare countermeasures based on radio-frequency jamming and that is consistent with the recovery, in August 2026 on the Ma'rib front, of the first fiber-optic FPV drone attributed to the Houthis.
Ansar Allah is thus documenting for the first time a short-range tactical engagement capability modeled on the Ukrainian template, signaling to PLC forces and their regional backers that the Yemeni battlefield has grown considerably more complex. The release of these videos — which feature graphic elements reminiscent of footage published by Hamas — also carries a significant propaganda and information warfare dimension.
The growing proliferation of this combined ISR + suicide FPV capability will have major tactical implications and could alter the balance on the ground.
