On the opening day of Euronaval 2026, Fincantieri presented the MMMV (Multi-Mission Modular Vessel) at its stand. The modular platform targets the export market and is also designed for unmanned operation.
The vessel is about 50 meters long and displaces about 500 metric tons. It is electrically propelled, with a maximum speed of 23 knots and a range of 2,500 nautical miles at an average of 14 knots. It can remain at sea for 7 to 10 days.
The base crew is 6 personnel, plus a variable number of operators depending on the configuration. The design prioritizes a reduced radar cross section (RCS) and a neutral “silhouette,” with no features that reveal its mission configuration.
The concept reverses traditional naval design logic. Instead of a ship built around a single mission, the MMMV is a platform that receives its mission through up to 6 containerized 20-foot payloads, reconfigurable according to operational needs.
Fincantieri has identified 6 main configurations: VANGUARD (strike), KEEPER (underwater protection), HUNTER (communications intelligence), WARDEN (protection of the Exclusive Economic Zone, EEZ), GATEKEEPER (mine laying), and INTERDICTOR (counter-illicit trafficking and maritime police activities).
The VANGUARD configuration, dedicated to strike missions, mainly integrates 6 containerized 20-foot modules for launching loitering munitions (that look very similar to the HERO family from Israeli company UVision).
The KEEPER configuration combines several containerized payloads: a light unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) with an IMSI payload (a highly specialized hardware module designed to detect, track, and intercept cellular devices), an Autonomous Underwater Vehicle (AUV), a launch and recovery system (LARS), a deep-water AUV probe, and a VHF/UHF communications intelligence (COMINT) module.
