Egypt confirms acquisition of C-130J SUPER HERCULES 13/09/2024 | Editorial Team

During the Egypt International Air Show, the Egyptian Air Force announced that it will proceed with the acquisition of a first tranche of 2 C-130J SUPER HERCULES from Lockheed Martin.

In January 2022, the US State Department had approved, via Foreign Military Sale (FMS), the possibility for Egypt to purchase 12 C-130Js and SPS-48 air defence radar systems, already used by the Egyptian Armed Forces, through a contract worth up to USD 2.2 billion. The package also included 12 spare Rolls Royce AE 2100D engines, GPS navigation systems, MWS (Missile Warning System) systems, and radar spares.

According to the first information, these first two aircraft should be delivered by 2026 (a detail that Lockheed Martin has not yet, however, confirmed) and will be followed, probably in the near future, by the purchase of the remaining 10; the SUPER HERCULES will have to replace, in fact, the old fleet of 24 C-130H transport aircraft, still in service with the Egyptian Air Force.
