Italy to procure 25 additional F-35s 17/09/2024 | Pietro Batacchi

Within the recently published DPP 2024-2026 (multi-year defence planning and procurement document), Italy has decided on the acquisition of an additional 25 Lockheed Martin F-35 multi-role fighters, and the related engines and equipment, at a total cost of EUR 7 billion, also including periodic upgrades and logistic support until 'predictably' 2035.

This represents the Phase 3 of the programme, which will bring the total Italian F-35 fleet to 115 aircraft.

Of the 25 aircraft, 15 will come in the conventional variant F-35A, and 10 in the short take-off and vertical landing (STOVL) variant F-35B.

At the same time, works are also starting on the TRIESTE LHD/LHA to enable its operation with Lockheed Martin's fighter aircraft (EUR 50 million).
