Italian Navy's new FREMM EVO frigates will be equipped with MBDA's MdCN missile (Missile de Croisière Naval, also known as SCALP NAVAL or NAVAL CRUISE MISSILE).
The FREMM contract option to study the integration of the SCALP NAVAL on the new FREMM EVO frigate was activated this morning, 5 November 2024, during Euronaval. Originally, in fact, the ships were fitted with 2 SYLVER A70 launch complexes for this category of missiles (for deep strike).
On the FREMMs already in service, these spaces have been used differently, while on the FREMM EVOs they will return to their original use with the installation, in addition to the 2 SYLVER A50s (with 8 cells each), of the 2 A70 complexes (also with 8 cells each, for a total of 16 A50 wells and 16 A70s).
This solution, therefore, seems to have been preferred to the one involving the installation of the CAMM ER missile.
