China Shows-Off New Large USV "Orca" 22/11/2024 | Mike Rajkumar

A new Chinese large Unmanned Surface Vessel (USV) was showcased at the recently concluded Airshow China.

The Orca 500-tonne high-speed stealth USV features a trimaran structure and is 58 m long and 23 m wide. The USV features a diesel-electric dual-mode propulsion system, that propels the Orca a maximum speed of 40 knots and gives it a range of over 4,000 nautical miles.

The Orca made its first sea trial in 2022 and was first shown in public in 2024. As per the Chinese MoD, the Orca will be capable of undertaking missions such as Beyond Visual Range (BVR) missile strikes, missile defense and anti-submarine search and strike. Images shown of the Orca, show it with four phased array radars and a Vertical Launch Missile system.
