ST Engineering Inks Agreement with Kazakhstan's Paramount Engineering (KPE) for Local Production of IFVs 09/12/2024 | Mike Rajkumar

Singapore’s ST Engineering has entered into a strategic agreement with Kazakhstan Paramount Engineering (KPE) to set up in-country production capability for a new 8x8 amphibious multi-purpose armoured vehicle.

In a release, ST Engineering communicated that it would provide engineering and technical support for the design and production of the vehicle, based on ST Engineering’s field-tested TERREX Infantry Fighting Vehicle (IFV). KPE’s production facility in Kazakhstan is slated to commence production of the new vehicle from next year.

Lim Kok Ann, President of Land Systems business at ST Engineering said the agreement marked a breakthrough for the company’s Land Systems business in terms of securing its first significant international land platform contract in recent years, as well as entry into a new market in Central Asia.

“KPE's production capabilities stand at 500 units of various types of armoured vehicles per year per shift and our extensive experience in deep localisation, scientific research, and the operation of armoured vehicles in Kazakhstan's unique geographic conditions, together with ST Engineering, will enable us to fully meet the needs of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Kazakhstan for amphibious 8x8 vehicles,” said Aibek Baryssov, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Kazakhstan Paramount Engineering.

The TERREX 8x8 is a highly flexible platform, which can be configured to carry a Remote Control Weapons System (RCWS) armed with a 0.5” HMG, a coaxial 40mm/7.62MG (equipped with 40mm Air Bursting Munitions System) or a 30mm cannon. The Terrex 8x8’s digital architecture that allows technology insertion of a vehicle navigation system, battle management system, power control management and state-of-the-art data and communication systems.
