SLAF Inducts Beechcraft King Air 350 Gifted by RAAF 16/12/2024 | Mike Rajkumar

The Sri Lankan Air Force (SLAF) has formally inducted a Beechcraft King Air 350 aircraft into service at SLAF base in Ratmalana. According to a SLAF spokesperson, the aircraft will strengthen SLAF air operations by enhancing capabilities in maritime surveillance, disaster relief and air mobility.

The Beechcraft King Air 350 is equipped with a Pro Line II Avionics Package and FLIR Star Safire HD Electro-Optical/Infrared (EO/IR) system and will enhance the SLAF’s ability to patrol Sri Lanka’s vast maritime zones more effectively. The aircraft which has been gifted to Sri Lanka by the Australian Government, was handed over to the SLAF in October.

The Australian Government will also provide sustainment support for the aircraft for one year, following which the SLAF will undertake sustainment of the type. Sri Lanka’s Ministry of Defence had announced in May 2023, that the Australian Government would gift an ex-Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) Beechcraft KA350 King Air aircraft (registration A32-673) to the SLAF.

Earlier this October, the SLAF had inducted into service a Beechcraft King Air 360ER aircraft gifted by the US Department of Defence. The US is also training SLAF personnel to operate and maintain the aircraft, in addition to providing support services.
