Royal Thai Navy contracts Spain's EM&E for SENTINEL 30 RCWS 27/02/2025 | Mike Rajkumar

The Royal Thai Navy (RTN) has contracted the Spanish company EM&E Group for 2 SENTINEL 30 Naval Remote Controlled Weapon Stations (RCWS) equipped with the Mk44 Stretch Bushmaster Chain Gun, and 2 OTEOS Electro Optics Systems which will be used as Firing Control Systems for the RCWS.

The SENTINEL 30 Naval RCWS and OTEOS Electro Optics Systems will be fitted on the RTN’s Tor 997 and Tor 998 patrol boats. The SENTINEL 30 fires 30x173mm ammunition and has a capacity of 200 rounds per ammunition box. The Mk44 Stretch Bushmaster Chain Gun is also compatible with Programmable Air Burst Munitions.

This is the first instance of the Spanish firm receiving a contract from the RTN for its naval solutions, though it had previously successfully delivered seven GUARDIAN 1.5 Land RCWS in 2024 mounted on Chaiseri Armoured Wheeled Amphibious Vehicles (AWAV). The 8X8 armoured vehicles are fitted with a 12.7 mm heavy machine gun controlled remotely.

The Royal Thai Police also use the company’s robotic aunav.NEXT for Improvised Explosive Device (IED) neutralisation. These robots are capable of lifting 250 kg and with two synchronized arms.

To further increase its market share in Thailand and other Southeast Asian countries, EM&E Group recently opened an office in the Asia-Pacific region.
