KAI Completes New Hangar to Accelerate Flight Test Activities 08/04/2025 | Mike Rajkumar

Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI) has announced the completion of a new aircraft hangar that will allow it to accelerate its flight testing activities to cater for growing demand for its KF-21 and T-50 military jets. Construction of the new hangar began in 2024 after a land lease agreement was signed with Sacheon City, and was completed on 20 March.

"The development and mass production of the KF-21 are actively progressing, and securing hangar space for the T-50 series export aircraft was essential,” said KAI President Kang Koo-young. He added, "We expect that the completion of this new hangar will increase customer trust through stable aircraft delivery and quality control."

The new hangar can accommodate 2 KF-21s. KAI had inked a contract for the first mass production batch of 20 KF-21 fighters in June 2024 and plans to commence deliveries in 2026.

The first front, center, and rear fuselages of the first KF-21 mass-produced aircraft were manufactured this February and final assembly, including the installation of the vertical fin, is expected to start shortly.

Ground testing of the first production KF-21 is expected to begin in the second half of 2025, followed by the start of flight testing in the first half of 2026.
