
Korea’s Defense Acquisition Program Administration (DAPA) has selected Korean Air’s Aerospace Division as the preferred bidder for the Korean military’s UH-60 performance upgrade project.
Korean Air Aerospace Division participated in the bid as part of a consortium with LIG Nex1 and Collins Aerospace for the project, which is valued at approximately KRW 961.3 billion. "Securing the preferred bidder status enables us to apply our expertise to this critical UH-60 upgrade program," a Korean Air spokesperson said in a company release.
Korean Air stated in a release, that it would now enter into detailed negotiations with DAPA regarding technical specifications and contract terms before finalizing the agreement.
The modernisation effort will include a total of 36 Republic of Korea Army and Air Force helicopters. Deliveries of the modernised helicopters to the Korean military are expected to begin in 2029.
The helicopters will receive digital cockpit upgrades and communication suites, in addition to implementation of comprehensive performance improvements covering the engines and survivability systems. The integrated depot maintenance, and force integration support elements of the UH-60 will also be modernised.
The ROKA had inducted 131 UH-60P Black Hawk helicopters between 1990-1999, out of which 124 were produced under license by Korean Air.
