Yesterday, during the 2025 Paris Air Show, Saab and the French defence procurement agency DGA signed a Letter of Intent (LoI) for the acquisition by France of 2 GLOBAL EYE aircraft from the Swedish company for Airborne Early Warning and Control (AEW&C) missions.
The LoI includes an option for an additional 2 aircraft. The procurement contract is expected to be signed in the coming months. The GLOBAL EYE will replace the 4 E-3F SENTRY AWACS currently in service with the Escadron de détection et de contrôle aéroportés 36 BERRY of the Armée de l’Air et de l’Espace, which have been operational since the 1990s.
In addition, yesterday the French Minister of Defence, Sébastien Lecornu, and his Swedish counterpart, Pal Jonson, signed a roadmap aimed at strengthening bilateral cooperation in the field of armaments.
