Oiling the wheels for a possible TYPHOON sale to Turkey 23/07/2025 | Pietro Batacchi

British Defence Minister John Healey and his Turkish counterpart, Yasar Guler, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding paving the way for Ankara to purchase the Eurofighter TYPHOON fighter jet.

We believe that the election of Friedrich Merz as German Chancellor has contributed positively to this development. As is well known, BAE Systems, on behalf of the Eurofighter consortium, has been leading the TYPHOON campaign in the country for some time. Turkey may purchase at least 40 aircraft. Further details are not available, but Ankara could opt for a standard MLU/LTE (Mid Life Update/Long Term Evolution) configuration, which will be implementable thanks to the release of P4EB software, equipped, among other things, with new mission computers, LAD (Large Area Display) and the ability to operate with swarm drones.

One of the requirements of the Turkish Air Force is to use the Baykar KIZILELMA wingman/UCAV in conjunction with the future national fighter KAAN and, at this point, also with the TYPHOON. However, everything will depend on the timing and urgency of the Turkish requirement.
