The opening day of London’s DSEI 2025 saw the official launch of GCAP Electronics Evolution (G2E), a new consortium tasked with developing the advanced sensing and communications systems for the Global Combat Air Programme’s sixth-generation fighter.
G2E brings together major industry players from the partner nations: Mitsubishi Electric (Japan), Leonardo UK (United Kingdom), and for Italy, Leonardo and ELT Group.
The move builds on the cooperation agreement announced at DSEI Japan 2023, and with a formal structure now in place, the consortium is preparing to secure a contract with Edgewing – the joint venture between BAE Systems, Leonardo, and Japan Aircraft Industrial Enhancement Co. Ltd. (JAIEC) – which leads the core platform’s development.
G2E will focus on the Integrated Sensing and Non-Kinetic Effects & Integrated Communications Systems (ISANKE & ICS), a next-generation architecture that will define the aircraft’s capabilities, as well as its long-term Through Life Support Service (TLSS).
Operating through joint teams across the three nations, the consortium will be headquartered in the United Kingdom, close to the GCAP International Government Organization (GIGO) and Edgewing headquarters.
