EASTERN SENTRY: NATO operation to counter Russian provocations 15/09/2025 | Editorial Team

Following recent Russian provocations – consisting of drone incursions into both Poland and Romania – NATO has launched Operation EASTERN SENTRY.

The Operation, which has no set end date, is tasked with further strengthening the security of the Alliance’s Eastern flank against any hostile activity by Russia.

Initial contributions from member states have already been deployed: France has provided 3 RAFALE fighters, Germany has committed 4 Eurofighter TYPHOONs, and Denmark has contributed 2 F-16 fighters and one IVER HUITFELDT-class AAW frigate. Additional contributions are expected shortly.

It should be recalled that, under NATO’s enhanced Air Policing, Poland is already hosting a Royal Norwegian Air Force detachment and a Royal Netherlands Air Force detachment, both operating F-35s (4 aircraft each), while Romania is hosting 5 German Air Force Eurofighter TYPHOONs.
