Lockheed Martin’s Skunk Works has unveiled VECTIS, a new low-observable drone concept. Positioned in the high-end segment, the system is clearly intended to meet future increments of the Collaborative Combat Aircraft (CCA) program.
According to information released by Skunk Works, VECTIS will be a reusable, runway-operated aircraft equipped with landing gear. Imagery reveals a tailless “lambda wing” layout, with a sharply swept leading edge and a broken trailing edge. The fuselage features pronounced chined shaping, a dorsal air intake, and an S-shaped duct for reduced radar signature.
A prototype is already under construction, with a first flight scheduled for 2027. Meanwhile, the ongoing CCA Increment 1 competition pits Anduril’s YFQ-44A against General Atomics’ YFQ-42A, with a down-selection expected in the coming months.
