Seafuture 2025: Leonardo presents the LIONFISH 30 turret 29/09/2025 | Tommaso Massa

Today, on the opening day of the Seafuture 2025 exhibition in La Spezia, Leonardo unveiled the LIONFISH 30 naval turret for the first time, equipped with the new 30x173 mm X-GUN machine gun.

This is the first production model manufactured for the Italian Navy. The turret features a stealth design (reduced RCS) and is equipped with an automatic loading system with two boxes of approximately 100 rounds each (allowing the use of two different types of ammunition), for a total of over 200 rounds ready to fire.

The independent, self-stabilized aiming optics are Leonardo's JANUS-D naval version, assisted by artificial intelligence algorithms for ballistic calculation for C-UAV functions. The new turret was created specifically to meet the emerging C-UAV requirement and has already enjoyed commercial success in North Africa, Latin America, and the Middle East.

It is a completely new system, combining the new X-GUN machine gun, the new ABM ammunition being developed by KNDS Italy (formerly Simmel), and, of course, the new turret. As far as the Navy is concerned, the first units to be equipped with the new weapon system will be the PXXs, followed by the FREMM EVOs.

Leonardo is also studying possible land applications for the LIONFISH 30, both in stand-alone and vehicle configurations.
