According to a company press release, Lockheed Martin (LM) has made a deal with the US Department of War to rapidly accelerate the production and delivery of the PATRIOT PAC-3 Missile Segment Enhancement (MSE) interceptors.
This new partnership will increase annual capacity from approximately 600 missiles to 2,000 by the end of 2030, supporting US forces, allies and partner nations.
According to the company, LM is well-positioned to fulfill this agreement, having recently increased PAC-3 MSE production by more than 60% over the past 2 years, reaching in 2025 the delivery of 620 interceptors, exceeding the previous year by more than 20%. Additional workers, advanced tooling and automation will be required to “turbo-boost” missile production.
As confirmed by LM Chairman, President and CEO, Jim Taiclet, this agreement is a direct outcome of the Department of War's Acquisition Transformation Strategy, strongly supported by Secretary Pete Hegseth.
This new, and first-of-its-kind, strategy introduces “a new model that provides long-term demand certainty, enabling industry investment, increasing production rates and driving operational efficiencies.” Briefly, this approach uses collaborative financing to keep upfront cash flow balanced, enabling businesses to invest with confidence to reach the production targets needed. The agreement is the result of years of teamwork aimed at updating acquisition processes and providing essential capabilities quickly and on a large scale for today's security needs.
The Pentagon will collaborate with major PAC-3 suppliers to secure subcontracts, enabling these companies to expand their production facilities, according to the Department of War. According to US media, pending additional Congressional approvals, the Pentagon plans to use the same facilitation strategy for reviewing multiple munitions procurement contracts in the future. The strategic goal is to aggressively “replenish stockpiles, rebuild our military, reestablish deterrence and strengthen and grow our defense industrial base.”
According to LM, in 2025 alone, more than 24,000 Missiles and Fire Control products were delivered to America and its allies.
